Our Legacy & Team
Our journey began in 1984, when Mr. Jim Forrestall, head of the physical plans at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), approached Mr. Al Jacobs with a request to develop a climate control unit that met strict conservation requirements. After a year of research, development, and testing, the first microclimate generator was patented by Mr. Jacobs, leading to the founding of Micro Climate Technology Inc. in 1985. That same year, the ROM placed an order for 80 units, marking the start of a new era in museum conservation. As demand for specialized climate control solutions grew, Mr. Jeff Mak joined in 1992 to
enhance the technology further, integrating temperature compensation and data logging capabilities. By 1993, it became evident that a centralized climate control system was needed to condition multiple cases across a large space—a challenge that Mr. Jacobs once again solved, leading to the sale of the first large-scale unit in December 1993. Today, Museum Climate Controls continues this tradition of innovation, providing cutting-edge solutions, expert consulting, and world-class service based on decades of industry experience.
Our Impact
Our work can be found in major museums, libraries, and cultural institutions worldwide, where our technology plays a crucial role in preserving historical artifacts, rare documents, and valuable collections. We have collaborated with institutions requiring customized climate control solutions for everything from national treasures to private collections, ensuring that even the most fragile materials remain protected from environmental threats. With a focus on precision, reliability, and innovation, our systems support institutions in maintaining strict conservation standards while seamlessly integrating into exhibition spaces. Whether it’s preserving ancient artifacts, rare manuscripts, or delicate textiles, our expertise
helps institutions extend the lifespan of their most valuable assets.
